Dr. Leilanie Mohd Nor is passionate about family business research and advising. Her scholarly work on family businesses’ decision making process in venture creation and portfolio entrepreneurship, family entrepreneurial orientation and transgenerational potential positions her as a subject matter expert in family business not only in Malaysia but also in the Asia Pacific region.  Since 2009, Leilanie has been involved in two renowned global research projects i.e. the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), and the Successful Transgenerational Entrepreneurship Practices (STEP) on family business. She was the team leader for STEP Malaysia from 2009-2018,  was the STEP Asia Pacific Leadership Council (Chair) for 5 years from 2010 – 2014 and she also sat on the STEP Global Board for 2 years from 2014 to 2015.

Her most recent work: a book entitled “Women and Family Entrepreneurship in Malaysia : A Formidable Economic Force” published by CEDAR-SME Bank, and a book chapter published by Edward Elgar entitled Family’s Decision in Venture Creation for Next Generation Leaders: The Role of Trust across Two Generations in the Case of Diversification in “Elgar Book II: Developing Next Generation Leaders for Transgenerational Entrepreneurial Family Enterprises”.

Leilanie is also a reviewer for Journal of Family Business Management, and USASBE conference cases/papers. Since 2010, she has trained more than 900 entrepreneurs, namely through the SUS (Skim Usahawan Siswasah) and CIMB BEST (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Skill Transformation programs. Leilanie has provided consultancy and advisory services to family businesses and ventures from retailers to manufacturers, and from tech start-ups to social ventures. Her more than 15 years managerial experience in large companies, her knack for marketing, and her entrepreneurial ventures contribute to her capabilities and competencies as a researcher, business advisor, consultant, coach and trainer.

In 2014, Leilanie Mohd Nor earned her Ph.D. from UNIRAZAK (a joint program with Toulouse Business School (ESC) France), with her thesis entitled “An Investigation into the Decision Making Process in Venture Creation: A Comparison between Family Business and Non-Family Business”. She earned her MBA from UNIRAZAK in 2005, and a BA in Telecommunications in 1996 from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, USA.

Dr. Mohar Yusof is the second generation of a family business. With more than 20 years entrepreneurial and managerial experience gained in start-ups and growing businesses coupled with his scholarly and professional work in the academic fields of family business, entrepreneurship, strategy and financial planning, he has developed the aptitude and competencies as a business strategist, advisor, consultant, coach and trainer.

He has been involved in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) study and the Successful Transgenerational Entrepreneurship Practices (STEP) project on family business since 2009.He is currently, Chair, STEP Asia Pacific Leadership Council. He has a Ph.D. in Management (by Research) in which he studied the organizational antecedents of academic entrepreneurship.
In addition, he holds the Malaysian Institute of Management – Certified Professional Intellectual Property Manager (MIM-CPIPM) certification and he is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Mohar has completed six modules of Entrepreneurship Educators training with Babson College, USA, and underwent training on Case Teaching at the Richard Ivey School of Business, the University of Western Ontario, Canada.

He has published in several international refereed journals namely the International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal, Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation, Journal of Asia Entrepreneurship and Sustainability, New England Journal of Entrepreneurship, Asia Pacific Journal of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Asian Journal of Case Research, and an ardent writer of cases for teaching and publication purpose.

Currently, he holds an administrative position at the Bank Rakyat School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, as the Programme Director, Bachelor of Business Management (Entrepreneurship)(Hons.) programme.
